Kitchen and curtains

Just another shot of the kitchen because I love it so much... :)

And I wasted 15 minutes the other day hanging the curtains in the master bedroom.  Yep. I went with purple. I know it's not required for occupancy, but it makes me feel good...

More stone work

Today was my lucky day. Ken had a cancellation and was able to do the little wall on the peninsula that was getting scuffed up from feet on the barstools. Not only will it eliminate the scuffing, it adds such a cool look to the whole area. I can't believe this is really my home.

Fireplace surround, day 2

Ken came back today to finish up the bottom part of the fireplace under the hearth. As the grout dries and the water evaporates from the stones, you can see the contrast between them and it all ties together beautifully. Almost like we knew what we were doing. Or dumb luck. Whatever... We have a gorgeous fireplace  and that's all that matters. :)

Fireplace surround

I can't express what a wonderful feeling it is to have someone who knows what they're doing working on the stone fireplace surround.

This is what it looked like when we left for Matt's Halloween party:

And this is what we returned home to:
Ken will be back on Sunday to do under the hearth.
I am speechless. It's just amazing.

Homecoming and girls

Amanda went to homecoming with friends this year and they came over to get ready together. So Tom and I went to Lowes and got some mirrors for the master bathroom because three girls getting ready for Homecoming will require mirrors.
Doing hair:
Doing make-up:
And three beautiful girls ready for the ball:

Then there's the aftermath:

But the mirrors are set and the mess can be cleaned up.

Preparing for carpet...

While 3 shots of Fireball before painting molding *sounds* like a good idea... To quote Fat Amy, "mmmmm... Better not.".
I'm going to bed now... :)

Masonry

Now that I have admitted to my ineptitude at masonry and contacted a referred mason, I feel so much better! Crap. These rocks have been on the living room floor for over 2 months now... It is time for them to be on the fireplace so we can get the carpet installed.

Big Door

So I installed a door yesterday. Yes, we've already installed aost all of our door, but this one is special. It's the fire door to the garage and its HEAVY.

So on sawhorses and it seems we have a problem...

That tile we installed should have stopped at the drywall not the framing. So, Sandi's idea, scribe the line with a glass cutter then thump it with a chisel (I used a drift) to break it of. Worked well, better than taking the tile up for a re-do.

The door vendor I thought measured the rough opening, but the door was EXACTLY the size of the opening height so would not go in. I have a power plane so used that to take off about 1/8" on top to make it fit.

Shims to help with squaring and we have a door to stem the cold incursion that has begun with the advent of fall. Now for some paint...
